Checkout 51 Summary
Product: Checkout 51
Price to join: Free
Do I recommend? No
Summary: Checkout 51 is a pretty handy app (as well as website) that members can use to get cash backs on items they have purchased. The app is easy to use, and it's a great way to earn a little bit of money on the side as you shop.
It's not a scam, but it's not for everyone. The cash backs for each item are low (ranging between several cents and $5), and it can take a long time for the rebates to accumulate (depends on how often you shop).
Is it worth your time and energy? Maybe, and only if you don't mind waiting several weeks or months for cash backs.

What is Checkout 51?
Saving coupons and using them are some of the most exciting things about going to the supermarket. If you're one of those ladies who love bringing out those little pieces of paper at the checkout counter, then you know what I'm talking about.
But paper coupons are slowly being phased out, and replaced by apps and websites that offer various supermarket and department store deals. One of these apps is Checkout 51.
Checkout 51 is an app that lets you save money by using digital coupons. The app and its website provide members a list of the latest deals every Thursday. When the member purchases or have purchased the product that is on the list of offers, the next thing he or she has to do is scan the receipt, submit it on the app, and wait for that sweet cash back.
It is available only in the United States and Canada for now. It was launched back in 2012 in Canada, but it only crossed the border to the US two years later. Its headquarter is located in the city of Toronto, Canada.
According to the company, it has saved its members more than $30,000,000 on its offers. The company was founded by Canadians Noah Godfrey, Andrew McGrath, and Pema Hegan.
In 2015, the company was acquired by media giant News Corp.
How Does the App/Website Work?
So how does Checkout 51 work?
First, you'll need to download the Checkout 51 app from the Play Store or the App Store. Don't worry, it's free. You can also use the Checkout 51 website to get cash backs.
Create an account or sign up using your Facebook or Google account. Verify your account, fill out the location details, and you're good to go.
Checkout 51 resets its deals every Thursday, so you can check out new deals on that day and thereafter. Note, however, that the deals also expire.
When you see a favorite grocery item on offer (either stuff you want to buy or an item you recently bought), simply add it to your shopping list on the app.
Take a photo of your most recent receipt, and upload it on the app. Checkout 51 will then scan your receipt for items on offer, then tell you how much you'll be receiving.
But you can't cash out just yet. Make sure that you've reached at least $20 for you to be eligible for cash backs. To claim your cash, simply tap the cash out button and you'll receive your check in the mail. You can also receive the cash on your PayPal account.
There are a lot of offers available on the Checkout 51 list. You can get cash backs for your favorite snacks, protein shakes, and cereals. Plus, you can also find deals on household cleaners, pens, cosmetics, OTC medication, and nutritional supplements in the app.
Other Ways You Can Earn Money with Checkout 51
Apart from cash backs from grocery items, there are other ways you can earn money by using Checkout 51.
First, you can watch videos or answer surveys located at the bottom of the deals list. You'll get 5 to 25 cents for every video you watch or survey you answer. Just like the deals, the number of videos you can watch or surveys you can answer is limited.
You can also earn more money with Checkout 51 by sharing the app to your friends. You'll get a $5 bonus for every time your friends sign up and scan their first receipt.

What I Like About Checkout 51
Here are some of the great things about Checkout 51.
* You can save money with Checkout 51 deals
It's true! If you're in charge of grocery shopping for your family, you can really get cash backs simply by using Checkout 51. The cash backs for each item range from anywhere between $0.25 to $5.
A $0.25 cash back might not seem a lot on its own, but you'll be amazed at how much you can save once the cash backs pile up. Plus, it's convenient. You don't need to bring all those paper coupons you've been keeping in your purse or your wallet. Just purchase your favorite products, scan the receipt, and wait for your cash back.
* Wide selection of items to choose from
The good news is Checkout 51 has a lot of items on its list of offers. Some snack brands include Peanut Butter & Co, Pampers, Nonni's, Honey Maid, Lenny & Larry's, and more.
There are also some premium brands such as Atkins, Sebamed, Clairol, and Renew Life to name a few.
If you're looking for cosmetics or bath and body products, then you're in luck. Checkout 51 also offers deals for brands such as Covergirl, Cremo, Lypsyl, and more.
You can also find deals on pens, kitchen cleaners, shampoos, diapers, and medications on this app.
* Shop at many stores in Canada and the US
Checkout 51 has partnered with almost all stores in the country.
If you live in the states, you'll find your good old favorites here, such as Walmart, Whole Foods, Target, and more. Some of Checkout 51's partner pharmacies include CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid, and Safeway to name a few. Other stores include 7-Eleven, Bed Bath & Beyond, Starbucks, and more.
Canadians can enjoy cash backs when they shop at Costco, Walmart, Metro Market, Tim Hortons, Whole Foods, No Frills, and more.
Checkout 51's other partner shops are local supermarkets, convenience stores, and bodegas. Moreover, the company is constantly expanding its list of partner stores.
* Easy to use
One of the best things about Checkout 51 is that it is easy to use. Just add an offer to your shopping list, upload a receipt which contains that particular item, and wait for the cash to be credited to your account. It's that easy.
What I Don't Like About Checkout 51
* Don't expect too much when it comes to cash backs
As mentioned, cash backs for each item range from $0.25 to $5. You will need to be a frequent shopper so you can get more cash backs that can be credited to your account.
But what if you don't like the items that are included in Checkout 51's list of offers or you're on a budget and you can't shop frequently? Chances are you won't find Checkout 51 useful at all.
* It can be tempting to buy some items you don't need just because there's a deal
Checkout 51 is a great tool to save money, but it's so easy to fall into the trap of buying items you don't need just because they are there and there's a deal. Before you go crazy buying snacks, cosmetics, or any items that strike your fancy, take a deep breath and put your phone away. Remind yourself of what the tool really is for and that is to save money.
* Check and PayPal cash out only
When Checkout 51 started several years ago, it only sent cash backs to members via checks in the mail. This method can be inconvenient for many people because of the length of time it takes for the check to get to them, not to mention that it is a waste of paper.
The good news is members now have the option to get their cash backs via PayPal. They'll receive money in real time, making it convenient for those who don't like to wait a couple of weeks or more for a check.
* Available in the US and Canada only
Checkout 51 is only available in the US and Canada as of the moment. In fact, if you live in another country, the app will not appear on your phone when you look for it in the Play Store. It's a great tool for saving money, but unfortunately, only Americans and Canadians can use it. Additionally, there is no news about Checkout 51 international expansion yet.

Is Checkout 51 a Scam?
Checkout 51 is not a scam.
It is a tool that offers cash back on items you're going to buy or have just bought. The list of items with rebates is diverse and virtually endless. You can get cash back for food such as cookies, peanut butter, fresh produce, cosmetics, yogurt, protein shakes, and even pens!
You don't have to pay anything to use the website or app. Simply open the website or install the app for free, sign up, and look for deals. The tool is easy to use, and you can cash out once your accumulated cash backs reach $20. Cash backs are paid via check in the mail or via PayPal.
Members can enjoy various cashback offers listed by Checkout 51, but there are other ways to earn more money using this tool. They can watch videos or answer surveys and get paid for them. Surveys and videos, however, are rare and on a first come, first serve basis only.
Although Checkout 51 is not a scam, you can't rely on it as an alternative source of income. The cash backs range from anywhere between $0.25 to $5, so the total sum you'll earn after several weeks or months will not be enough to cover your weekly expenses.
