Your bills have piled up once again, so you're hard-pressed to find ways to stretch your budget or find a new gig to supplement your income.

Maybe you've come across Max International on Facebook, or maybe one of your friends introduced you to the company.

The reseller compensation plan seems too good to be true, so you're impressed but still want to find out if Max International is a scam.

You're in the right place because today we're going to discuss this company, its products, its compensation plan, and whether it's just a pyramid scheme or another type of scam.

Let's start!

Max International Summary

Product: Max International

Price to join: $49 for basic starter kit (product samples not included)

Rating: 40/100

Do I recommend? No

Summary: Max International is a Utah-based health and wellness company that offers nutritional supplements that enhances the production of the body's glutathione. Its business model is network marketing or MLM, and interested individuals can earn more money by reselling the company's glutathione-boosting products. But these nutritional supplements are widely available online and in-stores, so it's going to be hard for resellers to market these products.

What Is Max International?

Glutathione, also known as gamma-Glutamylcysteineglycine, is the body's master antioxidant and it is produced by the liver. It was first isolated in 1929, but it was not until the middle and latter part of the 20th century that scientists discovered how powerful this chemical compound is.

Chief among its benefits is its power to reduce oxidative stress. It may help combat autoimmune diseases, make the symptoms of Parkinson's disease more manageable, and reduce symptoms of respiratory diseases, to name a few.

Foods that are rich in glutathione include vegetables such as cauliflower, bok choy, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. It can also be found in foods such as garlic, onions, legumes, fish, chicken, eggs, and nuts.

There are a lot of health and wellness products today, but what makes Max International unique is that it is one of the few MLM companies that offer products based largely on RiboCeine™, a chemical compound that helps boost our bodies' production of glutathione.

Max International offers three kinds of products: nutritionals, weight management, and beauty.

It was co-founded by Steven K. Scott, a prominent entrepreneur and author in the health and wellness industry. Members of the company's executive team include CEO Joe Voyticky, President Jim Stevralia, and CFO Tyler Kent.

Max International's headquarters is located in Salt Lake City, Utah. The business was founded in 2006, and it is one of the highly rated companies in BBB with a rating of A+. Apart from the USA, it also operates in countries such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Colombia, Singapore, and the Philippines. Its business model is multi-level marketing (direct selling or network marketing).

Is Max International A Pyramid Scheme?

No, Max International is not a pyramid scheme or any type of scam. It is a legitimate direct selling company with operations in different countries all over the world.

It offers different health and wellness products based on a proprietary ingredient called RiboCeine™, a chemical compound that helps stimulate the production of a natural antioxidant called glutathione.

Success is Rare at Max International

Success is truly rare at Max International. Just take a look at its income disclosure statement to know why this is so. (Note, however, that this is the only income disclosure statement we found online and that it's nearly a decade old.)

The overwhelming majority of Max International resellers rarely move past the Associate rank (5,881 or 64%), while people who belong to the Senior Associates rank account for 17% of the reseller population. These associates earned an average annual commission of $227.02 and $539.31 respectively. That's only 18.14 per month for ordinary Associates and 45 per month for Senior Associates. Those amounts cannot even cover a week's worth of groceries for a family of three.

The saddest thing about this is that only a measly 0.01% of associates made it to the Double Crown rank and earned more than $2 million that year. To be fair, success within the MLM field (not just Max International) is truly rare. Max even put out a disclaimer that "[s]uccess with the Company results only from successful sales efforts, which require hard work, diligence, and leadership." And it's true.

How Much to Join Max International?

You can enroll as a Max International associate online with or without a sponsor. You can pay the enrollment fee and annual virtual office fee using your American Express, Discover, Mastercard, and Visa cards. If you're the old school type, you can also pay for your order with a check sent by mail.

What I Like About Max International

* Products are backed by scientific studies

There are many dietary supplements on the market today. Some are nothing but fads, while others are backed up by scientific studies. The good news is Max International products are backed by scientific studies that are published on its website. Check out these studies here.

* Relatively low enrollment fee

The Max International Associate Starter Kit only costs $49 for US residents (if you live in another country, the enrollment fee in your currency will be different). This includes some sales materials, a USB which contains a guide on how to build your Max business, and some brochures.

Note, however, that you need to purchase samples of products to jumpstart your business.

* Different ways to earn

Max International offers a lot of ways for resellers to earn. Just check out our summary above to get an idea about how you can earn as a reseller. Or you can check out this link for a more detailed view.

What I Don't Like About Max International

* Glutathione precursor pills can be easily bought in drugstores or online

Maybe glutathione precursor pills were a novelty dietary supplement a decade ago, but that is not the case now. You can easily find bottles upon bottles of glutathione-boosting supplements in drugstores or online. Some are even cheaper than products hawked by MLM companies like Max International.

Because they are widely available online and in brick and mortar stores, you might have a hard time selling these nutritional supplements.

* Most dietary supplements do not work

According to a nationwide study commissioned by the National Institute of Health, dietary supplements do not affect the respondents' health. Consuming nutritious foods is still the best way to get all those essential vitamins and minerals your body needs.

Read more about the study about nutritional supplements here

* Ideal only as a source of side income

Working as a reseller of MLM products is not as lucrative as some MLM advocates would like to have you believe. It can be doubly hard if you live in a large city where everyone and the cousin are also involved in MLM. You'll have a lot of competitors who are also peddling the same products. So how do you stand out?

In my opinion, any MLM venture is only ideal as a source of side income only and not as a full-time business.

Is Max International A Scam?

No, Max International is not a scam or a pyramid scheme. It is a legitimate business that offers nutritional supplements that are developed to boost the body's glutathione production.

It is headquartered in Utah and has been in the business since 2006. It received an A+ rating from BBB thanks to its spotless reputation. It was sued by fellow MLM company Melaleuca back in 2011, but it seems that the company has already bounced back since settling for $1.2 million.

That doesn't mean that Max International is for everyone. If you're planning to become a reseller, keep in mind that it is ideal as a source of additional income only. You can't leave your full-time job just yet and dive into reselling Max products. Your success with MLM will depend on your personality, the type of products you're going to sell, and whether there are a lot of competing sellers in your area.

Although Max International is not a scam or a pyramid scheme, it is still not worth your time.
