What Is Origami Owl?

1) What is Origami Owl? Origami Owl is a MLM company in the jewelry space and most of their products are pretty inexpensive except for the watches.

2) Who is the founder? The website states 4 different founders but the operation seemed to have started with Bella Weems who apparently started the business when she was 14. The story goes she wanted a car for when she turned 16 so she took her $350 babysitting money and started creating/selling customizable jewelry. The company grew into what it is today with some investors joining along the way. Bella is now 21 which is remarkable to me someone could accomplish so much at that age. 

3) How do you make money with Origami Owl? Like I mentioned before, this company is a MLM. That means you can sign up and sell their products independently for commissions. You also get rewarded for recruiting people into your downline. This may sound like a good idea but in reality it's a horrible business model.

4) Are the products quality? The jewelry offered by this company isn't meant to be expensive or anything like that. A lot of the charms are $6 and they look like a good deal from what I can tell (I'm not a jewelry expert, though).

5) Are there similar companies? There's many of these kinds of MLM's out there including Vantel Pearls, Rockhill Designs, Lia Sophia and more.

Is Origami Owl A Pyramid Scheme?

It's definitely not an illegal pyramid scheme whatsoever.

However, it does have some elements of a pyramid scheme. 

To understand what I mean, look at the picture below:

Part of the commission structure at Origami Owl looks like the picture above and that's the part that rewards recruitment.

When recruitment is incentivized, where you are in the pyramid determines your income and now the work you do. Instead of spending your time selling a product, you spend it recruiting 

The reason Origami Owl isn't an illegal pyramid scheme is you can sell their products straight to customers without recruiting.

Ask anyone who makes money with this company, however, and they'll tell you recruiting is the best way to make money. 

Success Is Rare With Origami Owl

Here's the thing about MLM's - the business model is a rotten one and leads to most people just losing money or working hard and making very little. 

At Origami Owl over 93% of people make less than $82 FOR THE YEAR. 99% make less than $100 per month.

How do I know this? Origami Owl has an income disclosure statement where they show how many people are making money and how much. You can look at it below:

 In order to make any serious money you'd have to reach the last levels and it's almost impossible to get there. 

Look at the numbers: Only 22 people have made it to the last ranks and make on average $100,000.

That's only .11% of all people that join or 1 out of every 1000. 

This isn't just an Origami Owl problem either and it effects all MLM's. Look at the graph below to see even more shocking MLM stats:

As you can see you'll want to stay away from MLM's. 

How Much To Join Origami Owl?

If there is one good thing about Origami Owl it's that it's pretty inexpensive to join.

When you join you have to buy a business pack and here's the following packs you can get:

• Your Day Your Way Kit ($19)
• On The Go Kit ($49)
• DIY Kit ($99)
• DIY Kit 2 ($199)

The difference in the packs is the amount of jewelry you get. 

Origami Compensation Plan

MLM's always have complicated compensation plans and Origami Owl is no different. If you want to look at the entire plan for yourself, watch the video below:

I personally don't think it's important to know every single detail of the compensation plan and instead I'm going to highlight the main parts:

Affiliate Ranks

The picture up top represents the different affiliate ranks you can achieve at Origami Owl and in total there's 8 different ranks. You move from one rank to another by hitting certain goals and you also get bonuses for doing so. 

For instance, to move from the first rank to second rank you have to generate personal volume of 250, recruit one person into the downline and generate 500 team volume (group sales). 

This goes on and on until you get to the last rank of Executive Director. To reach this rank you'd have to generate 700 personal volume, recruit 7 people (2 of the recruits have to be level 7 and two more have to be level 6).

If that sounds hard to achieve, it is. Remember Only 1 out of 1000 people will reach that level. 

Retail Sales

The commissions at Origami are high but most of the products are pretty cheap - charms, necklaces and bracelets cost between $6 to $25.

The commission rate is 50% for charms, dangles and plates and 30% for chains, lockets and tags. 

Residual Commissions

Residual commissions are where you'll make the majority of your money and is the part that rewards recruitment/group sales. 

This is done in a unilevel structure and looks like the following:

How much you make and to what level you earn from depends on your rank and group sales. 

For instance at the second rank you'd earn 9% on level 1.

At the third rank you'd earn 10% on level 1 and 5% on level 2.

This goes on until you hit the 8th rank and you'd earn 15% on level 1, 6% on level 2, 3, and 4. 

Origami Products

Origami has a lot of pretty cool pieces of jewelry and a lot of different categories to choose from.

Here's the various categories of products that they offer:

Charms

All the charms on the Origami website are $6 and there's many different designs to choose from.

Some are flowers, bridal symbols and different insects. There's honestly hundreds to choose from. 

Living lockets

The lockets are a little more expensive and I'd say higher quality than the charms. The cost for a locket range from $28 to $$44.

Chains

The chains are pretty simple and inexpensive and you can find chains for as low as $12. On the higher end they go up to around $40.

Watches

The watches are a little more expensive and they cost over $100. Again, I'm not a style expert but they look pretty cool. 

Necklaces

The necklaces are the same quality as the chains and are priced in the same ballpark (between $20 to $44). 

Rings ​

The rings are much like the other products I've talked about so far and they cost between $40 to $48. 

Earings

Last up we have earings that are very affordable and nice looking - these cost anywhere from $24 to $32.

Collections:

There's also different collections of products including:

• Bridal
• Fall/Winter
• Harry Potter
• Wizard of Oz
• Birthstones
• Inscriptions 

There's definitely a lot to choose from here!

What I Like About Origami Owl

I don't think you should join this company but there's still a few things I like including:

• Cheap start up cost: The price to join Origami Owl isn't too high and at the most you'll have to pay $199 which isn't too much. There's many other options that are much less than that too.
• Inexpensive products: Another thing I like about this opportunity is the products you sell aren't too much. Many times you see with MLM's overpriced products but that's not the case here. 
• High commissions retail commissions: Another aspect that I like is the commission rates are between 30% to 50% which is pretty good and makes up for the low retail price of the products you'd be offering. 

Origami Products

At the end of the day there's more that I don't like than like and the main things I dislike is:

• Low success rate: Your odds of success with Origami Owl is very, very low. 93% make less than $10 a month and 99% make less than $100 per month. That's way too little for the amount of work you have to do.
• Recruiting friends and family: The low success rate isn't even the worst part - the worst part is you'll have to recruit friends and family. This can put a strain on close relationships and is one of the main reasons people quit MLM's. 
• Complicated compensation plan: Good luck understanding how you make money with this company! There's so many minor details that it'll take you a while to understand what's going on.

Origami Products

No it's not a scam.

HOWEVER, this isn't a good opportunity. Do you really want to join a program where 93% of the people who join make around $200 for the year?

Of course not. 

You want to join something where the average people are making $200 a day, not a year.

So, do yourself a favor and skip Origami Owl. If you don't you may find yourself bothering friends and family to make a $1 a day!
