What Is Reliv International
Reliv International is an older MLM and has been around 1988. Most MLM's fold within a couple years and it's a good thing Reliv has been around for a while - if you're looking for stability, you'll find that here.
This company was started by husband and wife Robert and Sandy Montgomery. Their flagship product came from Dr. Ted and was a nutritional formula that Robert and Sandy liked.
They took this formula and began Reliv.
Now Reliv offers many different health products that range from whey protein to soy products to fat burners to energy products and more.
Their products seem to be decent and many people think they're average in terms of benefits and quality.
There was a lawsuit in 2013 regarding their products and lead content, though. This is definitely a red flag.
Is Reliv International A Pyramid Scheme?
Some MLM's are outright pyramid schemes while others just have elements of a pyramid scheme - Reliv is in the second category.
I want you to look at this picture below:
This is why Reliv has elements of a pyramid scheme. Pyramid schemes exist when recruitment is the only way you can make money within an organization.
Recruitment is HUGE in MLM's and in Reliv. The reason recruitment is big is because you get a commission on every sale your recruits make. If your recruit recruits people you get commissions on their sales too and so on and so forth.
A system like this only rewards people at the top of the pyramid and commissions are always flowing upwards. It's almost impossible to be successful if you're on the bottom.
The only reason Reliv isn't an outright pyramid scheme is because you can sell the products yourself and make a commission one each sale.
But if you talk to anyone in network marketing they'll tell you the money is in creating a downline.
Reliv International Success Rate Is Low
Really low.
Take a look at the figures below that Reliv International has compiled:
If you look at the chart above you'll see that around 88% of people that sell for Reliv only make on average for the year a little over $100.
The high end earnings in that 88% is only $2,267.
The next 10% above that on average only make on $1500 to $6000 a year. Only the top 3% make an average yearly salary of $52,000.
The highest earner makes over $500,000 but that's really, really rare.
So what does this mean? It means that joining a MLM will most likely lose you money. And if you do make money there's a very small chance it will be anything significant.
Like I said in the last section, MLM's and Reliv are just designed this way. Only the tippy top makes money while the rest make very little.

How Much To Join Reliv International?
If there's one thing to like about MLM's is it's usually cheaper to join a MLM than start a traditional brick and mortar store.
Starting a brick and mortars costs $100,000 and most people will have to empty their bank account or take out a loan for that.
Reliv will only cost between $100 to $1000 to get started. Here's the break down:
Initial sign up cost
MLM's charge you to become a distributor so you don't just try and get products at the distributor discount price. This fee is usually low and less than $100.
Product packs:
This is where the bulk of the start up costs come from. You need products to make money and you have to buy them from Reliv. The product packs usually cost between $100 to $1500.
You should always go for the cheaper pack before buying the more expensive ones.
What is Reliv's Compensation Plan?
MLM's always have complicated language when it comes to their compensation plans - they use very technical languages, hard to understand charts and various payouts depending on 100 different factors.
Reliv is no different.

There's only really two things you need to know, however, which are:
Retail commissions:
This is when you actually make a sale to a customer. When you buy products from Reliv you get them at a 20% to 40% discount. You can then sell the products for retail price and earn a commission.
Downline commissions:
If you watched the video up top you heard that your downline is where you'll make the majority of your income from Reliv, which is true.
This is what makes MLM's so bad, though. Remember a pyramid scheme is a system where your income relies on recruitment - creating a downline is just recruitment.
So if you plan on working for Reliv, you better know how to get people to sell under you.
What Products Does Reliv Sell
I don't really have much to say about the effectiveness of the products Reliv sells - I'm not an expert in health products or a scientist.
I read a few reviews and it seems they're decent at best and most people consider them middle of the pack in terms of quality.
I do know, however, the products seem to be a little pricey and the market is crowded.
Remember either you or people you recruit are going to have to sell these products. Many people already take supplements and other products to boost their mood and help with their health.
It may be difficult to talk someone into abandoning their favorite brand for something more expensive.

What I Like About Reliv
I don't think you should join Reliv but there is a few things that I do like about this company:
1) Has been around for 30 years: MLM's come and go and there's literally hundreds that start a year and hundreds that disappear. Reliv has been around for 30 years and that's a good sign - Reliv won't just shut down and leave you high and dry.
2) The products seem decent: Reliv has products that are pretty well reviewed and I think they're as good as what you'd find in the store.
3) Pretty high commissions: You get a pretty big discount when you purchase from Reliv too and when you sell Reliv's products you get a chance to make between 20% to 40%.
What I Don't Like About Reliv
At the end of the day there's more that I don't like then I do like and the top things I don't like are:
1) Low success rate: 88% of the distributors who work for Reliv make around $100 for the year. $100! That is not worth the effort and only a very small percentage (3%) make an average American salary.
2) Crowded market: Health companies are everywhere - MLM and non MLM. People will already have their favorite brands and it will be hard to get people to change.
3) Pricey Products: Again, health is a crowded market and getting people to buy your expensive health products when there's cheaper alternatives will be tough.
4) Selling to friends and family: One of the downsides to MLM's is you have to sell to your friends and family. This can ruin relationships and can frankly be embarrassing.
5) Lawsuits regarding quality: There's lawsuits in Reliv's past that claim their products have more lead than the legal limit allows.
Is Reliv A Scam
There's a difference between a scam and a bad business opportunity - I think Reliv is the second not the first.
The success rate is low and it's going to be very difficult to make any real money but at the end of the day it's on you.
You get products and you have to sell them or recruit people to sell them. That's the game and 3% of people that take the risk and work with Reliv seem to make to make it work.
97% can't make it work, though.
