Safe Money Report is an investing newsletter headed by Mike Larson.
He claims now is a unique moment in history for America with a lot of danger.. and a lot of opportunity.
Is this all legit or one big scam?
We'll get to the bottom of that in this review.
Additionally, we'll explore any red flags that I find, we'll take a look at Mike's past stock picking performance and more.
You'll know if Safe Money Report is worth it by the time you're done reading.
Let's get started!
Safe Money Report Summary
Creator: Mike Larson
Price to join: $68
Do I recommend? Not really
Overall rating: 3/5
Safe Money Report isn't the worst investing newsletter out there.
It's been around for a while and the investing strategy is conservative.
However, the stocks I looked at didn't perform all that well.
There's also been some huge losers.
Overall I just don't think there's anything special about this service.

Mike Larson Stock Picking Performance
Mike Larson has been running the Safe Money Report for a number of years (more than a decade).
In that time Mike has made a handful of public recommendations for stocks.
Let's investigate how some of these stock picks have perfumed over the years to see how good he is at stock picking.
Alynlam In November 2014
Alynlam is a biotech company and at the time many of their products were early state.
But they were cash heavy and had strong partnerships.
The stock has been volatile but if you were patient you would have seen good results:
7 years is a long time to see returns and there were plenty of times this stock was down big time.
But if you held on you could have doubled your money.
Ferrellgas Partners
Ferrellgas Partners is a propane supplier and Mike was calling this company the "perfect stock."
There were red flags about this company at the time.
They were stagnant and hadn't grown in 10 years.. and at the time there were competitors that were growing.
Mike should have taken these red flags seriously because the stock absolutely tanked:
This is one of the worst stock picks I have ever seen.
Ferrellgas made a couple acquisitions that loaded the company with debt and forced the CEO to step down.
The stock has never recovered.
So, far from the perfect stock.
Statoil In May 2015
Statoil, which goes by Equinor now, is one of the biggest public companies in the world.
It's a Norwegian state owned energy company that focuses on petroleum.
Here's how the stock performed:
This company has been up and down since the recommendation and is now up overall.
However, it took around 7 years to see anything significant from this pick.
When Mike made the initial recommendation it was around $18 and now it's up to $37.
Ship Finance Limited In September 2014
Ship Finance Limited is a a company that extracts value from shipping fleets.
At the time this stock was pretty volatile but was paying a 8.5% yield.
Here's how the stock has performed since then:
This stock has performed very poorly over the years and was recommended at $18.
It's now at around $10 and at no point went about the recommending price.

Safe Money Report FAQ's
Still have some questions about this newsletter?
Here's some answers to any questions you might have:
1) What Is Weiss Ratings?
Weiss Ratings is a stock selecting service that has been around since the 70's.
This company is reputable and pretty well liked.
I think they're most well known for their ratings.
They rate over 56,000 assets.
2) How Much Does Safe Money Report Cost?
Safe Money Report is an affordable service and only costs $68 per year year.. Mike claims this is a savings of $714.
Not really sure about that but it's still not bad.
However, you have to realize this is just a bait product.
Stock pickers always sell a cheap newsletter and then try to upsell you more expensive products.
Some of the services at Weiss Ratings will cost thousands of dollars.
The main goal is to get you to buy one of these newsletters.
3) Is There A Refund Policy?
Yes, there's a very good refund policy.
You get 365 days to get your money back.
I'm not sure if the more expensive services at Weiss come with this kind of refund, though.
Usually these expensive newsletters only come with a credit refund.
4) Is Mike Larson Legit?
Mike seems like your typical stock picker to be honest.
He comes from a stock entertainment background like so many of these guys have.
Mike worked for Bloomberg News and is seen on TV all the time.
He's known as a conservative investor and likes to invest in commodities, gold/silver, natural resources and things like that.
So , yeah, I guess he's legit.
5) Are There Similar Newsletters?
There's plenty of investing newsletters out there.
Here's some that are similar:
- Technology Profits Confidential
- Bryan Perry Investing
- Strategic Intelligence
- Forecasts And Strategies
- Jeff Clark Trader
- True Wealth
- Katusa Research
There's honestly a lot more of them too.

Safe Money Report Conclusion
Today was a pretty short review.
To be honest a newsletter like this doesn't require a long in depth review.
This newsletter is very conservative and the picks aren't out of the box or anything like that.
And that's perfectly fine!
These kind of investments can win in the long run.
The problem is the picks still aren't all the great - at least the ones I looked at weren't.
Some were winners over 7 years later and others were down after being recommended.
One lost 95% of its value and the stock price fell off a cliff.
Because of this I'd pass on Safe Money Report.
Here's A Better Opportunity
Safe Money Report is a decent newsletter but there's better out there.
The good news is there's still a lot of good places to get stock picks.
